Honghong (Crystal) Shi, graduate student in chemical engineering, was selected to attend the 2018 American Chemical Society Summer School on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Energy this July at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO.
The program pays transportation, meals and housing costs for roughly 50 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars from American institutions to participate. Sponsors for the event include the ACS, ACS Petroleum Research Fund, and ACS Green Chemistry Institute.
A host of experts in the field gave presentations on the principles and practice of green chemistry as it applies to biomass, fossil fuel, nanotechnology and many other fields. There were also poster sessions and social activities, including a canoe trip in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Participants also learned about career opportunities, entrepreneurship, grant writing, and useful resources offered by ACS.
