CEBC Director Delivers Plenary Lecture at International Conference

Monday, August 30, 2010

Prominent researchers and industrial practitioners from around the world recently met in Philadelphia for the 21st International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering.

As part of the three day event, Bala Subramaniam, Dan F. Servey Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and director for the Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis, presented a plenary lecture about designing new chemical processes with minimal environmental impact.

“It was quite a privilege and honor to be invited to highlight CEBC research accomplishments at this premier conference,” said Subramaniam.

Subramaniam’s lecture described how researchers at CEBC are combining novel catalysts with new nature-friendly solvents to revolutionize production processes for important industrial chemicals.  He also emphasized that quantitatively comparing new technologies to conventional processes is essential for both guiding research and making informed business decisions.

Four other CEBC researchers attended and presented at the meeting.
