Archer Daniels Midland Partners with CEBC to Advance Biorefining Research

Monday, May 25, 2009

CEBC and Archer Daniels Midland Company have formed a three-year research program to make industrial chemical intermediates and fuels from agricultural-based renewable resources instead of petroleum.

This major industry-sponsored research project at CEBC is getting a boost in the form of matching state funds.  On May 19, the Kansas Bioscience Authority agreed to match ADM’s contribution to bring the three-year commitment to $2.4 million.

The collaboration will develop process technologies for the production of chemicals from renewable resources instead of traditional petroleum-based feedstocks.   A unique feature of the research is the flexibility to shift emphasis as breakthroughs occur.

“We are pleased that ADM, a global leader in biorefining research and innovation, has chosen to partner with CEBC,” said Bala Subramaniam, director of CEBC.  “The project is an excellent match for our faculty expertise and research facilities and supports the KBA’s vision of a thriving biorefining industry in Kansas.”
